We need to fund the T adequately and ensure safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all. I’ll fight for reliable public transit, safe streets, and a 21st century transportation system that will strengthen our economy, protect our environment and our public health, and help us build livable communities.
I have worked on:
- Legislation to improve MBTA finances and legislation to increase the gas tax, index it to inflation, and dedicate the revenues to funding transportation (⅔ to the Highway Fund and ⅓ to the MBTA).
- Bills to reduce diesel emissions from non-road construction vehicles and to provide cities and towns with a local option to increase motor vehicle fines to improve driving.
- A bill requiring backup cameras on large vehicles owned or leased by the state -- a requirement that was included in the Massachusetts Vulnerable Road Users Law.
If elected, I will fight for:
- Sustainably funding the MBTA and our Regional Transit System while prioritizing service improvements, expanding commuter benefits, and improving safety oversights.
- Implementing data-driven highway and auto safety measures.
- Investing in infrastructure, from repairing structurally deficient bridges to building high-speed rail.
